Properties:Propionic acid is a short-chain saturated fatty acid. It is weakly acidic in aqueous solution, but it is highly corrosive. The steam is irritating to the skin and respiratory tract. At normal temperature and pressure, propionic acid is a clear oil liquid with unpleasant rancidity and pungent smell. It can be miscible with water, ethanol, chloroform and ether.
Application
1. Industrial production, used as an organic reagent, esterification agent and plasticizer. In weak acid solution as buffer, adjust the pH of weak acid bath. Synthetic propionic acid derivatives. Propionic acid can be used to produce propionate and ester;
2. Food and feed industry, preservatives and anti-mildew agents, used for bread, pastries and other food preservatives, grain anti-mildew agent, feed silage agent;
3. Spice intermediate industry. Propionic acid is used with acetic acid in butter, milk and sour cheese, which can be used as raw material for synthetic spices, giving spices natural sour taste.
4. Medical intermediates, such as propionic anhydride as propionylation agent used in medicine, antibiotic drugs such as keratoxamycin propionate.
Propionic acid is mainly used as food preservatives and mildew, can also be used as beer and other viscosity inhibitors, nitrocellulost solvents and plasticizers, can also be used for nickel plating solution preparation, food flavor preparation and medicine, pesticides, mildew and other manufacturing.
