Carbomer
Synonyms: Carboxyvinyl Copolymer, Polyacrylic Acid
Molecular formula: (C3H4O2)n
CAS No: 9003-01-4
Properties: Carbomer is a crosslinked polyacylate polymer with strong moisturizing ability, acting as high-efficient & low-dosage thickener and suspending agent. It can be neutralized by alkali to form clear gel. Once its carboxyl group is neutralized, molecule chain expands extremely and viscidity comes up, due to mutually exclusion of negative charge. It can enhance yield value and rheology of liquid substances, thus it is easy to get insoluble ingredients (granual, oil drop) suspended at low dosage. It is widely used in O/W lotion and cream as favorable suspending agent.
Application
Carbomer is a polyacrylic thickener, which has high-efficiency thickening and suspending properties as a water-soluble thickener. It has a wide range of uses in medicine, daily chemistry and industry.
In the daily chemical industry. Due to the thickening properties of carbomer 940, it can be used in shampoo, hair styling, lotion, aloe vera gel, alcohol disinfection gel, etc. Especially antiseptic gels.
In the pharmaceutical industry. Carbomer 940 is characterized by short rheology, high viscosity and high clarity, which can be used in topical lotions, creams and gels. The carbomer gel system is a gel matrix in a neutral environment, with a crystal clear appearance and smooth hand feeling, which is very suitable for preparing creams or gels. In drug administration, it has a wide range of applications, especially in skin and ophthalmic gels.
In industry, used as solid alcohol fuel, as the carrier of alcohol.
It can also be used in battery, textile and other industries.
